Aloud £80 A Day!
Posted: 31st July 2003 | Credit: The Sun
GIRLS ALOUD are Britain’s biggest girl band – but they are paid just £80 a day each.
They’ve flogged hundreds of thousands of records during six months in the spotlight but their debts are piling up. Now the stars — NADINE COYLE, SARAH HARDING, CHERYL TWEEDY, KIMBERLEY WALSH and NICOLA ROBERTS — are fuming that they are not getting the financial rewards of fame.
They are charged rent by their record label Polydor for their flat and they are hundreds of thousands in debt to the company for the cost of making their debut album, two singles videos and photoshoots.
The singles — Sound Of The Underground and No Good Advice — netted the girls just 6p each for every single sold. Most of the cash from sales has been carved up between Polydor, the songwriters, their manager LOUIS WALSH and Granada TV, the creators of Popstars: The Rivals which launched the band. Granada are thought to net up to 40 per cent of record sale profits.
Girls Aloud’s debut single was the Christmas No1 and sold 213,000 copies in its first week. The follow-up, No Good Advice, sold only 65,000 in its first week and went to No2. Their album, Sound Of The Underground, reached No2 but has so far sold 70,000 copies and was just No61 in yesterday’s midweek chart.
A friend of the band told me: “There is a lot of unrest. The Girls were told it would be a long time before they would ever be rich but they didn’t expect to face spiralling debt. They know people do tough jobs for far less reward but the girls are starting to feel fobbed off. The girls work crazy hours — from the early morning until late at night, seven days a week. If you think the life of a pop star is glamorous, think again. These girls are worked like horses and have very little to show for it. They are starting to fight with each other over the situation.”
If tight-fisted Polydor won’t give the hard-working girls a pay rise, then I reckon we should. Let’s face it, their new single, Life Got Cold, is actually a pretty good pop record and has a good chance of being No1. And I’m reliably informed by my male readers that they don’t mind looking at pictures of them either.
(NadineCoyle.net: Dunno how reliable this is, we do know they dont get much from singles - but this is a bit pathetic really! Lets hope its not all true!)

Pop Babes are Boys Aloud

FOR crying out aloud! The Girls Aloud pop babes are wearing the trousers.
The group – Nadine Coyle, 18, Kimberley Walsh, 21, Sarah Harding, 22, Cheryl Tweedy, 20, and Nicola Roberts, 17 – ditched their skimpy outfits for boy’s gear to film the video for new single Life Got Cold.
The ladettes still look hot.

Sound Of Oasis?

IF you thought the new GIRLS ALOUD single sounded familiar — here’s why.
The track, Life Got Cold, appears to have borrowed heavily from the classic OASIS track Wonderwall. In fact, I reckon that the melody of the chorus is exactly the same. A Girls Aloud insider says: “This new single is a big departure from their usual sound. They are all big Oasis fans so I’m sure they won’t mind comparisons with their classic love song. But I don’t think they are about to start wearing parkas and punching photographers — not at this stage in their careers anyway.”
Life Got Cold is the third single for the girls. It will be released on August 18 and sounds like a No1. I reckon it is their strongest song yet and proves that the feisty five — winners of Popstars: The Rivals — are here to stay.
However, the first Popstars band, the now defunct HEAR’SAY, also appeared to nick an Oasis tune.
The chorus to their massive-selling debut track Pure And Simple seemed to be a cross between All Around The World and the ALL SAINTS smash Never Ever. But NOEL GALLAGHER decided not to take action, perhaps wisely considering almost every Oasis track ever made is a rip-off of T-REX, SLADE or THE BEATLES.
But decide for yourself on the Girls Aloud track.
(NadineCoyle.net: Where did this come from? Oh wait, The Sun - that explains it!)

3rd Single Confirmed!
Posted: 9th July 2003
It has been confirmed that the new single from Girls Aloud will be 'Life Got Cold.'
The choice came after the outstanding response from fans and reviewers alike. This third single is set for release on 18th August.
Girls Aloud have already shot the video and done a cover shoot. Although details are still shady, it is rumoured that the video will take a rustic blue and green theme with the girls finding themselves the only ones left in the world. The video is expected to premiere on television this weekend, possibly on SMTV Live. Further details will be given out closer to the date of release.

Nadine's Split Rumours Rubbished

RUMOURS OF a split in the relationship of Derry star Nadine Coyle and soccer star Neil McCafferty have been rubbished by the teenage singer's father.
Niall Coyle was speaking from Spain - where Nadine, her family and Neil are nearing the end of a holiday.
The couple have been together for two years and Nadine paid tribute to the Charlton Athletic star in the insert of the Girls Aloud debut album 'The Sound of the Underground'.
"My boyfriend has been a great friend and support. He puts up with me loads. You have helped me when I was down," Nadine wrote.

It has been claimed that the Derry teenager ditched her boyfriend for little known Triple 8 singer, David Wilcox. But Nadine's father Niall, speaking from Spain, rubbished the reports about his daughter.
"This is absolute rubbish, no truth in it," he said. Recently Nadine has been accused of texting a male dancer, another report described as fantasy. A further report suggested that the singer had been piling on the pounds - but her slim line appearance in Derry City Centre a fortnight ago put paid to that claim.

Girls Aloud have been in the media spotlight since they shot to the top of the charts with their debut single 'The Sound of the Underground'. The girls have rarely escaped the glare of the tabloid media.
Nadine flew into Derry two weeks ago to celebrate her 18th birthday at home with her family.
Asked by OK magazine "what do you think when you see stories in newspapers that you know aren't true?" Nadine said: "We just have to laugh...there are so many of them really."

Nadine Has Kian In A Spin

NEWLY unattached Ulster pop sensation Nadine Coyle has a secret admirer. Kian Egan of Westlife has revealed he thinks she is 'gorgeous'.
Nadine has just split from Derry-born Neil McCafferty, who plays football for Charlton Athletic reserves. It is reported that she is now consoling herself after the end of her two-year relationship with the young midfielder, with little known boy band singer, David Wilcox of Triple 8. However, while in Belfast for Westlife's sell-out Odyssey concerts, blond, blue-eyed Kian admitted he was smitten.
He told the Belfast Telegraph: "Nadine is gorgeous. I have been out with Girls Aloud loads of times and she is also great fun. Girls Aloud are very good. They have a great opportunity and I think they are going to be around for quite a few years."
While her family were today reluctant to talk about her love life, a friend revealed that Nadine and Neil were finding it more and more difficult to spend time together.
"She is just really busy with Girls Aloud and making the most of her success," she said. "I think Neil will always be very important to her but she just has other demands on her time."

Nadine recently revealed the band's hectic schedule. A typical day for the girls can begin as early as 4am, and go on until midnight, with rounds of non-stop TV and radio shows.
"When we do get a free day we fly to Europe, to promote Sound of the Underground there, it's hectic," she said.
And Nadine has been turning heads wherever she goes.
In May she was officially declared Northern Ireland's sexiest woman. She was placed 87th in the prestigious FHM 100 Sexiest Women in the World poll just behind supermodel Sophie Dahl, who came in at 82, and Hollywood stars Jennifer Aniston (83) and Nicole Kidman (85).
Meanwhile Neil, who is said to be 'gutted' over the split, can console himself with the fact that his football career is on the up.

Inside a year he had ascended all the way through every level of the club's ranks, although he failed to make the final 16 for a game against Manchester United. Last season, he turned out 16 times for the reserves scoring one goal and he also made 19 appearances for the U19s.
